Voted the #1 Guitar Instructor on Boston's South Shore 9 years running from 2013 to 2021! All ages, levels, and genres. We can discuss guitar (I also teach bass, ukulele, sax, drums, and voice), recording, songwriting, performing, theory, and more. I teach people how to wear all the hats and how to become successful in all areas of music regardless of where you want to take it. If your goal is to be a full-time musician, great. If you just want to sit on your couch and play guitar while watching a baseball game, also great. We will learn a great deal during our lesson time, but we'll also have a great deal of fun. I know how to keep a good balance.

The best part about what I do is the ability to share the knowledge I've learned over the years and pass along the traditions deeply embedded within our art.

About James

I'm a bassist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and actor. I received my BA in Music (with a Classical Double Bass focus) from California Polytechnic State University in 2017 and I've been a professional freelance musician since 2010; primarily working in the state of California. My love for music

so far so good. very happy my son involved in online lessons with JAMES! thank you
Chris C.
I took around 15 lessons for bass guitar with James and really enjoyed it. James was able to tailor the experience for what I wanted, which was heavy on music theory, but still made sure we applied the theory to the instrument. I had prior experience with some music theory and playing, but hadn't touched my bass in almost 10 years. James was able to figure out exactly where to pick up, provided great materials, and kept me engaged. James is very knowledgeable, a great player, and a cool cat.
Tom
James is a highly qualified instructor and was very thoughtful in answering my questions. I was impressed with the amount of resources he had on hand, such as worksheets, method books, sheet music, etc. I would definitely recommend James for anyone curious about learning music theory and/or the many instruments he plays.

My main focus throughout my career can be broken down into 3 categories:

-Technique
-Knowledge of the fretboard
-Chord and Scale knowledge

I guarantee that if you are comfortable with these 3 areas, you will be able to play whatever you want, any style, any genre. Of course once the basics are finished we can then move into the specifics of your chosen style or chosen combination of styles. For example:

-Jazz-
We would start to focus more on larger chord voicings as well as a more complex scale language. Heavy emphasis on improvising

-Blues-
Less of an emphasis on chords and more on soloing, specifically articulation techniques like bending, sliding, vibrato, legato (hammer ons/pull offs), basically all of the things that will make you sound "bluesy"

-Singer/Songwriter-
Less emphasis on lead playing and more on keys, chord voicing, and chord progressions. Also song structure and melodic note choice.

-Metal-
Heavy emphasis on techniques such as hybrid ...

6, 7, or 8 string, anything and everything guitar is my specialty. Electric or acoustic welcome. We will cover the parts of the instrument and why everything is so darn important (like how to stay in tune!). We can perfect your guitar's signal flow, pedals, and amplifier settings, too!

All kinds of styles from simple note picking and open chords to pop/rock/punk/metal/blues/jazz and more.

Want to learn basic rhythm? lead? fast strumming? how about making those big chords without making your hands hurt? I can help! You'll be jamming along with your favorite songs and with friends in no time.

I typically will teach and write guitar using tablature instead of standard sheet music. These are a simple set of lines and numbers that are much easier to read, and once learned will instantly give you access to thousands of songs.

Also I can show you how to play with a capo or slide, fingerstyle or pick. If you want to learn grunge or sing deep, I can show you how to play in lower ...

"When my son moved to the area, he began playing guitar for the first time. His job kept him very busy, so he wanted to find a guitar instructor where his time would be well spent. Below is his review of Ahmad.

You would be hard-pressed to find an instructor as excellent as Ahmad. With his help, I made an incredible amount of progress on guitar in a matter of months. His lessons are precise and organized, and I always left the lesson feeling like I learned a ton of new stuff. He strikes a great balance between requiring excellence as well as giving encouragement and making sure it's always fun. In a few months, I went from knowing close to nothing about music to being able to play my favorite songs from start to finish. As I have left the area, I will miss Ahmad's lessons, but I'm thankful for getting him to start my journey into the world of music!"

"I've been taking lessons for 3 years now with Ahmad. My guitar ambitions are frequently met with technical and musical obstacles, and Ahmad has always helped me work through them and keep me moving forward.

I have also been working on music theory and basic guitar chords - Ahmad has helped guide me to a better understanding and technical proficiency.

Blues Singers Who Use Classical Technique

Blues singing seems very far from the kind of vocal styles you’d think would need classical training -- opera, art song, musical theater -- but you’d be surprised at how much basic vocal techniques overlap! I strongly believe good singing technique is useful for every style, not just classical singing. Proper vocal technique is all about health, efficiency, and sustainability. Singing with healthy vocal technique can ensure you can keep singing your entire life and is likely what contrib …
