Acting is a natural form of exploration we see in children around the world. Imagination, pretending, imitation, mimicry, and character-play extending into the real world can create safety for expression and experimentation.

My playful approach to acting is based on 30 years of experience, a degree from Seattle’s premier BFA program, and five years’ studying playful human interaction with their environment. Applying it to scripts and performance is my particular delight.

Together we work to embody characters, enjoy making messes, and elevate human expression to its most entertaining form. We’ll borrow from improvisation and a variety of artistic disciplines. We’ll create something memorable, profound, and delightful together.

All ages and experience levels.

Hello! I'm Dax L., As a coach, my approach is kind, down to earth, and non-judgemental, but I make sure to give constructive criticism because without it, you cannot and will not improve. I have studied with a wide array of different acting coaches. I am also a producer, director, and screenwriter. Now having finally had the privilege of being the casting director for the film I produced, I have invaluable knowledge to share with you on what to do and what not to do when auditioning (both self-tapes and in person) if you choose to make one of our lessons an industry coaching lesson. For acting coaching, I have helped actors have that "WOW it finally makes sense" moment, where they understand what they had been lacking all along.. unpredictability! In my opinion, the things an actor needs to do to stand out in an audition is be unpredictable, believable, and fully focused. I am super excited to team up with TakeLessons and I hope to be your new coach!

Side note: If you need both ...

I absolutely loved taking lessons from James. I was just coming off of a long break from acting when I found him, and I’m so thankful that I did. He gave me the confidence boost that I needed to push onward in my training. Since he has experience in the industry, he was able to tell me (truthfully) what I need to expect when my career takes off someday. That aside, we read through screenplays, did some accent work, improved a bit before every class, and talked about the power of positivity/confidence. I learned a little bit of everything from him. If you’re looking to get started on your path to an acting career, James is definitely your guy! He’ll do whatever he can to prepare you for your crazy journey through the industry.

As an actress of 19 years, I love teaching my students the art of telling a story. I started my training in the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts program, following on to Interlochen Arts Academy and eventually private training in Los Angeles. I have credits in regional theater, television (Netflix's Dear White People, The CW's Worst Birthday Ever, TruTV's Adam Ruins Everything), countless national commercials, and more. Together, we will explore several different methods including Meisner, Stanislavsky, Boleslavsky, imagining, and more, to create your own unique method. I can't wait to start this journey with you. In your first few lessons, we'll assess your goals, learn how to break down a script, and choose an acting method to start with. As we go on, we will build a repetoire of monologues and scenes for you to use, develop career trajectory targets, and develop your own personal approach to the art of storytelling. I can't wait to start this journey with you!

Nick is an amazing voice teacher and a highly skilled singer himself. His lessons are very thorough, but also fun! While Nick gives you corrections, he also emphasizes the things that you are also doing well on. You will leave his lessons feeling confident and energized!
Emma
I have had the privilege of working alongside Nick, learning from him, and watching him grow as a performer and as a teacher. I have seen him instruct and collaborate with peers and adults, as well as kids ranging from 8 to 18. The way in which he is able to articulate and pinpoint areas where improvement is available, while simultaneously keeping things fun and positive, is a true accomplishment. He cares so deeply about the work, as well as people. If you are looking for someone for your kids or for yourself, Nick comes with a plethora of knowledge and a humble, jovial demeanor. It will be a judgement free zone, so you can come as you are, wherever you are with your singing journey. Be prepared to work hard, connect to your body, and have a great time. I personally still look to him for audition advice, style tips, and reminders of technique. I could not recommend Nick enough.

"Super Enjoyed our first online class..even with some technical difficulties due to my antivirus software firewall, or browser or the weak wifi in my place or something...Truly enjoyed it. Jason was very kind and patient, while we tried to fix the technical aspect. Once we got started on the phone because video and voice didn't work; I really learned a lot, and gathered insight into Acting that I couldn't get from a book or other classes that I have taken. I'm truly blessed I get the opportunity to work and learn from Jason. I am super excited and can't wait till our next lesson. I will call technical support at Take Lessons to get technical help to fix the issues, and will buy a portable wifi hotspot if I have to solve the video and sound issue. Jason is patient, kind, very nice, professional, extremely knowledgeable, I can't say enough good things. Thank you very much for all your help and your time. I look forward to the journey ahead... Take care. Aloha. -Bobby"

7 Acting Warm Ups & Games for Actors | Take Lessons

Being in the entertainment industry is not much different from being in the sports world. In addition to some natural talent and interest, a huge overlap with both industries is the time spent honing your craft.  Of course regular practice is a necessary evil, but come race or audition day, our minds and bodies still need to be prepared for what’s about to happen. Just as we see athletes spending time stretching and warming up before a performance, it’s mandatory that actors warm up be …

How to Handle Rejection as an Actor

One of my college acting professors told us, “if you can’t handle rejection, find another major. Actors are rejected more than they’re cast. You will have to deal with rejection every day; and if you let it get to you, you won’t last long”. Those words stuck with me all these years: not only for their brutal honesty, but also because I wish I had asked her: how do we deal with all this rejection? Fortunately, there are many A-list stars who can tell you stories of how they experie …

How to Remember Lines: Different Techniques to Try

Are you wondering how to remember lines for a play? Wondering what the best techniques are make sure you're off book when the time comes? Memorization can be tricky business.  When it comes to acting, memorizing lines is a necessary evil. Having your lines down quickly and early on in the rehearsal process is helpful not only for you, but also for everyone around you. The sooner your lines are memorized, the sooner the real work can take place.  In order to really connect with the …
