Bachelor of Music: Contemporary Improvisation from New England Conservatory
Joelle W.Book Now
I graduated from New England Conservatory of Music with a degree in Classical Bassoon Performance and Contemporary Improvisation. I currently play as a freelance player and perform with local experimental ensembles in the Austin, TX area. Bassoon has been a passion and my primary means of expression for as long as I can remember. I want to help students achieve that same sense of accomplishment and direction I felt and continue to feel with the instrument.
I was classically trained for 11 years under bassoonists Mark Goldberg, Richard Svoboda, and Lori Tiberio. My Contemporary Improvisation studies were conducted with renowned improvisors Joe Morris and Anthony Coleman at the New England Conservatory of Music. As a graduate of NEC's Contemporary Improvisation Department, I can help students push the boundaries of their instrument, think outside the box, and utilize techniques not often found in the classical community.
I am a professional bassoonist and I recently moved to Leander, TX from NYC. I graduated from New England Conservatory of Music with a Bachelors of Music, specifically Contemporary Improvisation and Bassoon Performance . With my background in experimental music and free improvisation, students ca

He’s very informative, explaining the why and the how, and doing so in a way that’s easy to understand. It’s helping me establish the foundations of musicality while working on the physicality of developing my muscles, mind and body, to be successful with this new skill.
Aside from the art/skill of singing, Rene has been patient and flexible with my nomadic lifestyle, which can be susceptible to weather, connectivity, and a myriad of other disruptions. I don’t wish him another student in my circumstances, but he’s been willing to work with mine!

I am a practical vocal coach with 25+ years of experience as a private voice teacher, audition coach, music director, and piano accompanist. I am based in New York City where I enjoy providing affordable lessons and helping aspiring athletes and artists pursue their dreams to belt on Broadway, let loose with karaoke, or rock out with a local band. I really enjoy troubleshooting difficult songs and helping my students who are passionately committed to their goals but have limited time for a more traditional curriculum.
My main expertise is coaching professional dancers, singers, and actors to:
(1) sing a variety of styles (especially pop/rock),
(2) build an audition book that represents their brand,
(3) prepare sides and monologues for callbacks, and
(4) develop a storyteller mindset.
Although I work primarily with young professionals, I also enjoy serving recreational learners whose musical dreams may simply be to:
(1) learn a new song,
(2) sing karaoke with friends, or
Practical troubleshooting is the main driving force behind my lessons. As a coach, I often meditate on the following questions: (1) How do we make sounds and communicate with speech and song? (2) How do we convert 2D symbols (text) into a 3D body (performer) and create a 4D emotional experi
