Professional saxophonist, trained at the nations top music schools, I teach students of all levels and ages, whether just beginning or an experienced player. I have a great amount of experience in both classical and jazz and have been playing for about 21 years myself. I currently teach saxophone at Austin Peay State University and Tennessee State University, but truly enjoy working with students of all ages and abilities!

Hear yourself play with a recorded band your fist week of lessons. Let the fun begin. Learn to play by ear, by touch with your eyes closed, and transpose and improvise from the start - not years later. Play games and activities to enhance your understanding of the musical concepts, especially when it comes to rhythm. Play your own "made up" melodies and I'll write them on the staff for you, (in the beginning) and together we'll configure the rhythm pattern using flashcards. Learning piano has never been more fun!

Now, what do we do with your "made up" melodies; otherwise known as composing music? Let's record them!

What about chordal patterns and piano technique? You'll be learning it all while having fun. You won't even realize how much you're learning until after the laughter and enjoyment settles a bit. But not for long. I've worked with ages 6-72. Let's get things rolling. I'll see you in class!

Want to play your favorite songs? Interested in learning to write and ...

I love the ease of recording a quick summation of a song idea, melody line and/or lyrics on an MP3 and co

Chess Openings & How To Start Your Game Strong

As a game, chess is traditionally divided into three phases: the opening, the middlegame, and the endgame. While all three are important, today I’m going to help you start out strong in the opening. When I first learned how to play chess, I played openings that really did not help me improve and left me with an awkward start to the game more often than not. Eventually, I adopted some of the openings that I will show you in this post and my rating skyrocketed. Opening Principles The first …
