Instruction in varied musical theater styles from legit to belt. Develop your instrument, confidence, character, and personal style to win auditions and shine on stage.

As a voice instructor with over 20 years experience in the private studio, college environment, church ministry, high school chorus master teacher, and as a free-lance performer, I understand that each student requires tools and techniques unique to their needs to grow and improve. Focusing on the basics of breath control, efficient support, and healthy vocal production, my gift of hearing and assessing each student's strengths and weaknesses allows me to create lessons catered to each singer's specific needs.

With a Master of Music in vocal performance from Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University, an appreciation of various styles of music, and my personal investment in each individual singer, I am able to successfully share my knowledge of the vocal instrument and my love of music with my students.

As a professional performer, teacher and master teacher with a Master's degree from Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University and a Bachelor's degree from California State University, Chico, I have performed with orchestras, chambers groups and choirs throughout the United States and Euro

I had a wonderful lesson with Chef Stevie. She explains why you are doing what you are doing and is super easy to follow along. Then end product - my meal was amazing and my family loved it too. My son said it was his favorite meal of all time and that includes restaurants. Success! And I can’t wait to do another class.

One of my favorite classes in college was Aural Skills. We were taught how to identify intervals and transcribe melodies and rhythms after hearing them only once.
Ear training is an excellent way to heighten your musical understanding, creativity and overall listening experience. It involves some degree of singing and active participation. You will also have an introduction to piano.

Piano lessons with David are really enjoyable. I chose him because of all the reviews that mentioned how patient and encouraging he is, and they were absolutely right. I'm an adult beginner and I was afraid to start lessons for a while because I can be an embarrassingly slow learner, but now I'm looking forward to them. Another thing that I think makes him a great teacher is how he provides specific feedback. Highly recommend.

I searched for an excellent upright bass teacher for a good while. Then I found David Lloyd. David is patient, humorous, friendly, knowledgeable and very professional. He carefully taught me all the necessary groundwork to enable me to continue on my own for a while. In a few months I will, without question, continue my studies with David. I would, without hesitation, recommend David to anyone interested in seriously studying the Upright Bass.

Bagpipes:
You don’t need a Bagpipe to get started. All you would need is a practice chanter and a teacher. Starting with basics of learning notes, rhythms and songs, as the students progress they can even bring in songs they would like to learn. Being an expert Voice Teacher I have breathing techniques way beyond your typical Bagpipe teacher.

About Karen

Hi! My name is Karen D. I’ve had the pleasure of performing, singing, writing, and recording since I was seven years old. Besides being an Honor Graduate of Berklee School of Music, I have been a lifelong student of the international world-renowned instructors Dante Pavone and Charlie Banacos.

Karen obviously loves the piano & guitar. She’s probably an excellent teacher for those instruments. Why do I say that? That’s what she talked about! She spent half my lesson trying to convince me to learn one of those instruments. Could work on listening skills! Not even sure if she owns a set of bongos herself. Didn’t start teaching me anything until last 10 min & then I had to leave early anyway. So 50 min out of 60 and about 5 I actually learned a few things I could have been practicing for at least 30 min of class. Use her if you want to learn something else other than bongos.

Ms. Karen did a pretty good job, she had ideas for the lesson and provided ideas for the next lesson. She went out of her way to help me with this new idea---------"music" and "reading music." If there was any short fall in the lesson it was on my side and my preparation failings. I have no problem recommending Ms. Karen to others. Regards, JC

Extremely knowledgeable! Karen is a superb guitar instructor. Honestly, I was struggling. Discouraged! She helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and moved me from beginner to intermediate in a matter of months. If you’re getting tired of learning from YouTube and smart phone apps, let Karen kick start your guitar playing. You’ll be glad you did. Thanks Karen!!

Learn the Basics: You will Learn the use of fingers and plectrum. Some classic songs are fun and easy to play. Also you learn to understand dulcimer tuning and playing songs and being creative.
The Truth: Dulcimer is one of the most satisfying instruments to learn because it's easy to make a pleasant sound right from the beginning. It is part of American culture. You can start at any age, and you can have fun with it even if you don't know any music theory and have never played an instrument before. The Dulicmer is made of beautiful woods such as spruce and mahogony or walnut and is usually hand crafted. The curved body of the Dulcimer extends the length of the fingerboard, and its fretting is generally diatonic with use of 4 strings. Most play it while it is on their lap; but I have seen accomplished players play the dulcimer while standing up. It's real life origins are from the Appalachian Mountains and it is portable and a truly American made invention. So...the Dulcimer first ...

I absolutely loved taking lessons from James. I was just coming off of a long break from acting when I found him, and I’m so thankful that I did. He gave me the confidence boost that I needed to push onward in my training. Since he has experience in the industry, he was able to tell me (truthfully) what I need to expect when my career takes off someday. That aside, we read through screenplays, did some accent work, improved a bit before every class, and talked about the power of positivity/confidence. I learned a little bit of everything from him. If you’re looking to get started on your path to an acting career, James is definitely your guy! He’ll do whatever he can to prepare you for your crazy journey through the industry.
