My goal as a teacher is to provide an in depth understanding of the instrument to my students. Whether we are learning technique specific to the instrument or general musical concepts, it is important to me that I take the time to insure that my students not only learn how to do something, but also the reasons why we are learning a specific concept or technique. At the end of the day, my ultimate goal is to teach you how to teach yourself, so that you may enjoy playing the instrument outside of our lessons together.

I prefer not to conform to a specific teaching style, because every student is different, and I have been fortunate to have a great variety of types of students throughout my years as a teacher. Some of my students are children and adolescents who are looking to pursue music when they go to college or auditioning for state and regional band programs. Many of my students are very busy adults who are either looking to pick up an instrument for the first time as an ...

Matt has been a fantastic teacher for my 16-year-old son over the past year and a half. He brings a ton of experience and knowledge, and has expanded my son’s appreciation of the music and instrument. His lessons are always detailed, engaging, and fun, and my son comes out of them excited to practice and apply what they’ve been working on together. I really, enthusiastically recommend him!

Chelsea was very patient and listened to my concerns. She had material ready for me to play and was very kind when she corrected me. She always found something I did right even when I made mistakes. Very good teacher!

Chelsea did a great job at our first lesson! She was patient and encouraging. She gave my daughter good suggestions on how she could improve and things to try in areas she was struggling. My daughter felt so much better after the lesson. We will continue to take lessons with Chelsea

We sent music to Chelsea in advance and she was able to help my son with the difficult parts of his music. The time was well spent and she explained things well. We look forward to our next lesson and working with her over the next month to help him catch up.

Saxophone:
A family of woodwind instruments, saxophones are usually made of brass and played with a single-reed mouthpiece similar to that of the clarinet. Like the clarinet, saxophones have holes in the instrument which the player closes using a system of key mechanisms. When the player presses a key, this typically causes a pad to close over a hole. There is soprano, alto, tenor, bass and baritone saxophones. The great thing about learning saxophone is it is almost the same fingers as flute and clarinet! We will start with the basics of learning finger placement, breath control, notes, reading, rhythms, songs, theory and improvising.

Karen obviously loves the piano & guitar. She’s probably an excellent teacher for those instruments. Why do I say that? That’s what she talked about! She spent half my lesson trying to convince me to learn one of those instruments. Could work on listening skills! Not even sure if she owns a set of bongos herself. Didn’t start teaching me anything until last 10 min & then I had to leave early anyway. So 50 min out of 60 and about 5 I actually learned a few things I could have been practicing for at least 30 min of class. Use her if you want to learn something else other than bongos.

Ms. Karen did a pretty good job, she had ideas for the lesson and provided ideas for the next lesson. She went out of her way to help me with this new idea---------"music" and "reading music." If there was any short fall in the lesson it was on my side and my preparation failings. I have no problem recommending Ms. Karen to others. Regards, JC

Extremely knowledgeable! Karen is a superb guitar instructor. Honestly, I was struggling. Discouraged! She helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and moved me from beginner to intermediate in a matter of months. If you’re getting tired of learning from YouTube and smart phone apps, let Karen kick start your guitar playing. You’ll be glad you did. Thanks Karen!!

I've had the privilege of teaching private lessons since I was 17 years old. This year turning 50 I have been incredibly thankful for all the students I've been able to help prepare for school tests, All State auditions, recitals, gigs, college exam preparation, introduction to various genres and styles, and instrumental and improvisational techniques. I hope through take lessons service to reach more students and be able to help guide and train more musicians who have a dream or goal to achieve. Music is challenging and demands patience and skill and for that reason I take what I do very seriously but hope to be approachable and meet the student at whatever level they are. I have performed in contexts varying from chamber ensembles to orchestras, jazz big band, and contemporary ensembles with artists that are recognised by name and reputation world wide. Music has been constant and ever changing but I hope to stay current by using technology, apps, and listening to improve the ...

For someone who has never taken a private music lesson before I able to relax and begin learning about music literacy and music theory by Isaiah's ability to express and articulate the fundamentals of guitar in a simplified way. It was rewarding to leave the lesson with new techniques to practice and have fun with.

Choosing a Neck Strap | How to Play Saxophone Tips

Learning how to play saxophone starts with the right equipment--namely, a quality neck strap! Read on for some helpful advice from Brookings, SD teacher Carl S...    The saxophone is a unique instrument for many reasons. One example is that the saxophone is the only band instrument that uses a neck strap. Unfortunately, the neck strap is often the most overlooked aspect of playing the instrument.
