To me, learning any instrument is about balancing the exercises with the fun material that makes you want to keep playing. I am a technique-focused teacher insofar as making sure any student of mine is avoiding bad and sometimes unhealthy habits in their playing. I do, however, try to find fun ways to work on technique, with the end goal being playing repertoire that is fun for the student. I believe technical exercises have their place in learning any instrument, but that it's important to spend the majority of your practice time on material which is ultimately enjoyable to play.

I do have certain sets of books I like to follow depending on the student's interests and age, but I am always happy to tweak the lesson plan to fit the student's needs. I also tend to supplement whichever books I'm using with material of my own, to make sure we're also covering important topics such as music theory and maybe a bit of relevant music history in the process.

About Joshua

Hi there! My name is Josh, and I'd love to be your teacher! I've been playing guitar since I was eight, starting out playing rock and roll, then focusing on classical training for my college career. In both undergraduate and graduate school, I studied classical composition as a classical guitarist,

Joshua has helped me become a better guitar player by showing me how I can work towards my goals, and giving me exercises, information and musical practice that makes my goals attainable. Joshua is a student-directed teacher, and he has worked with me to focus on my areas of interest (songwriting and fingerstyle/chord work). He is willing to answer questions, responsive to ideas, and able to explain difficult concepts. I've learned things that will help me improve my guitar playing for years. Thank you, Joshua.
Ashlyn
I was self taught when I started taking lessons, Josh helped me fix some bad habits that helped me push my playing to the next level!
Marco
I grew up on bossa, and wanted to learn how to play it. I had played guitar for years but mostly rock and folk. Josh was able to take what I knew and teach me how to play bossa music.

I can teach just about all styles of electric guitar, as I’ve played guitar for about 15 years now. On electric, understanding your gear is as important as your playing, and I’m ready to tackle that with new students, as well as keep our fingers going!

About Quentin

I go to the University of Georgia for Double Bass Performance. I've spent about 11 years learning and sharing everything I can about this wonderfully complex instrument. So many genres of music can be played on the double bass, and once you add my secondary instrument, the bass guitar, you're a nece

I was nervous to start and Quentin quickly put me at ease as a student. I am an adult learner who can read music and has basic understanding of piano and wanted to move to the next level. He asked the right questions and shaped lessons and practice time which have proven extremely helpful. I look forward to more lessons and can easily recommend his lessons.
Andi
Quentin was very knowledgeable, flexible and creative. He was the ideal teacher for me as a beginner.
Milo
Quentin has an easy going manner that makes my middle school student want to learn from him. My son is working on improving his technique and Quentin was able to assess an appropriate level of instruction.

I'm not young, and I'm hard to teach music theory to, but he was patient, and is helping me figure a way into learning important stuff that I find kinda dry and not fun to practice. (I'm a good player, but music theory is very challenging to me.)

SIX-STRING
Six-string electric guitar was the first instrument I picked up over 13 years ago, starting out reading tabs and chord charts before learning more in-depth harmony and notation in my later music studies. Having grown up playing rock and pop music, I feel prepared to teach my students the fundamentals of guitar playing, from chord progressions to reading (sheet music, tabs, and chord charts) and even improvising solos over progressions. I also want to help my students develop a strong technical foundation (picking and finger-style) and productive practice habits to help them achieve success, whether it be alone in their bedroom or on stage with a band! I use a variety of method books for reading and rhythmic training, as well as basic theory (including scales, arpeggios, and harmonic foundations) to help my students get a grasp on reading and the mechanics of guitar playing.

Two years ago I picked up the tenor guitar to further my jazz studies ...

I have always wanted to play the cello but never had any musical experience. I was hesitant doing online lessons at first but that worry quickly ran away when I had my first online lesson with Jordi. Jordi was so welcoming and it made me excited for the next lesson to come! He is extremely patient and encouraging whenever I would mess up or get a bit nervous playing which helps my anxiety. I always learn something new from him every time we meet and he creates a clear plan on what to work on for my next lesson. He is an understanding teacher and tailors to your experience level and the kind of music genre you like to play. He is also very flexible with his schedule. I'm a senior in high school so I have many things on my plate but he's willing to make time fit mine and his schedule. I'm very thankful to have him as my cello teacher. If you're researching and contemplating which teacher you should choose, picking Jordi is the smartest choice! :)
William
My daughter loves her cello lessons and has made amazing progress. Jordi is both professional and relaxed which is a great combination.
Leslie
Jordi was a Godsend when the pandemic hit. I had a life long desire to make music as well as listen and learn how to relax. He has far surpassed any of my expectations of an instructor. He is phenomenal. He teaches, he listens to my questions; He even anticipates my questions. His smile immediately says “I understand where I can help.” I am always eager to meet with him every week.

My name is Jerry. I LOVE music and passing my knowledge on to others. I have played many different instruments in many different kinds of bands. It all one major thing in common, it was FUN! If you are not having fun while learning an instrument you won't want to learn. Lessons can be fun AND educational at the same time. I have had many parents tell me I'm one of the best teachers they have ever seen. (A couple of them were public school teachers themselves). I truly want my students to succeed and I will do everything in my power to help them accomplish that!

Extremely unprofessional to abruptly cancel scheduled/paid lessons without the courtesy of a message or any notice because this instructor was unhappy with a 12-year-old child's progress. Very surprised by and disappointed in the manner in which he handled this situation, certainly could have been handled with more respect and maturity.

"Matt was my guitar teacher from 5th grade to 10th grade, teaching me electric guitar for over five years. Now as a Junior in college, I am still thankful for the lessons Matt taught me to have a great foundation in playing guitar. Matt is one of the most knowledgeable people a student could learn from. He pays special detail to the habits that many guitar players fall into when beginning, and made sure these habits were eliminated quickly. I had both parents, grandparents, and friends sit in on our lessons and all were impressed with the careful and thorough approach of Matt’s teaching. Thank you Matt!"
