When it comes to teaching music, Matthew's philosophy is that every private music lesson has to be uniquely tailored to best fit each individual student; every budding musician, like every plant, has a unique balance of needs in order to truly thrive. Matthew can both teach at a very advanced level that may require more of a rigorous teaching curriculum, but he can also teach complete beginners where his lessons focus on equipping the student with all of the tools to become a fantastic musician while having a fun time doing it! He is very willing to listen to the individual need of every student and adapt his teaching style to fit each student whether that be very critical and detailed, or more fun and nurturing. With his extensive competitive music side in addition to his more adventurous rock climbing side, he knows how to make his lessons focused yet exciting and fun! When it comes to repertoire, Matthew is very classically trained which is how he chooses to pass down his knowledge
Matthew is a current undergraduate piano and neuroscience major at Washington University in St. Louis and he has been teaching music since his junior year of high school. I have conducted orchestras since I was 5 years old. That is a strange claim to make, however it is true. My first experience of conducting a professional symphony orchestra in Ukraine stemmed from the fact that my family of professional musicians were members of the orchestra and principals of their sections of violin and viola. As my unusual talent of expression and facility was practiced during the orchestra rehearsals, I became very comfortable and aware of the finer details of hearing the layers of the orchestra, each musician and each orchestration color by the great composers works being performed. I also became very versed in the repertoire of the orchestral music early on. My subsequent coaching and study included such luminaries as David Zinman, music director of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, The Rochester Symphony Orchestra, Aspen Music Festival Director and the Swiss Symphony Orchestra. My other illustrious advisors in the world of conducting include Josef ...

He created a welcoming environment in our online lessons that made it easy to be vulnerable and get right to working on new skills.
I highly recommend for others looking to better understand their voice and communication style, and learn to hone them.
Joseph’s technical ‘short cuts’ are amazing! He illustrates ways for your hands and your mind to work that are tailor made for you. Learning from him is so fun it seems almost effortless.
The way Joseph teaches allows you to develop at your own pace. The atmosphere is always relaxed yet everything moves along quickly.
At the open classes I attend, his other students are progressing very rapidly too. After each class, we share our impressions. The mood is elated because it feels like we stepped back in time and into history.
Joseph often quotes inspired wisdom of his historic teachers in our lessons. He is a great inspiration on his own with great musical insights.
I’m playing Beethoven and Chopin works I never thought I could approach at this stage of study, with great depth of understanding. I now play with greater passion and skill, get compliments from everyone I play for, and no longer worry about playing in public.
I look forward to each and every lesson with Joseph. His encouragement and support makes learning so rewarding! Anyone who finds this musical treasure is a lucky person and I cannot recommend him highly enough.
