Picture this....you get home after a long day of work or school, you feel a little stressed out by the world, wishing you had more time to get the endless list of things done and more energy to do them.....

Instead of turning on Netflix and zoning out, you pick up your guitar and play your favorite song.

Feels pretty great right?!

Learning to play an instrument is one of life's most rewarding endeavors, that just keeps getting better the longer you pursue it.

With playing an instrument, you will have something you love to do and look forward to doing every single day, enriching your life and those around you.

If you'd like to chat or have any questions just shoot me a message and I'll get back asap :)

Thanks for checking out my profile and I hope to hear from you soon.

I have studied Flamenco for over 20 years. During that time, I've had the opportunity to perform with many of the top artists in the Bay Area, as well as study with masters from Spain.

I have studied all of the parts of the art form to varying degrees: toque, cante, baile, palmas, cajon, but my areas of specialization would be toque (guitar) and cante (singing).

About David

Hi there, and thanks for viewing my TakeLessons profile! I am excited to be a part of the team in Berkeley, CA. I started teaching lessons while in music school for Classical Guitar in 1996. From 1998 onwards, I played with a variety of musicians from Africa and Latin America, as well the as gre

I've been taking lessons with David for more than 2 years, he's amazing... he's very knowledgeable, patient, knows how to explain difficult concepts and can adapt to a broad range of topics, covering different areas that I'm interested on, including music theory, songwriting, guitar and bass, and music production.

David is both a professional musician and an experienced instructor, and you can tell the difference that makes in every class.

We started with at-home classes, but switched to online during the pandemic and that's working pretty good for me to.

I'd recommend David to anyone looking to learn a new instrument, get better at it or expand their music knowledge in general.

Simply put, David is a great teacher. His lessons incorporated the perfect blend of theory and patience while opening up new horizons on the fret board. His style of teaching is very flexible so that one can hone in on what excites them. For me, that was jazz and David made a huge difference in my creativity.
Selina
David did a wonderful job, teaching me bass via Zoom with a lot of focus on what I wanted to do. Even though my interests ranged from technical to classical to theoretical to funk, he always had something he could show me and proved to have great knowledge of the instrument as well as of music theory and history. I would recommend him to anyone.

I've tried learning Mandarin Chinese with numerous instructors before Joan to no avail. My prior experiences have been arduous at best. But, my recent experience with Joan has been the complete opposite. Her teaching style encourages you to be bold and enjoy the learning experience, which makes learning a more fun experience. I would highly recommend her as a Mandarin Chinese instruction to anyone who truly wants to learn the language.

Bassoon:
A woodwind instrument in the double reed family that typically plays music written in the bass and tenor clefs, and occasionally the treble. Appearing in its modern form in the 19th century, the bassoon figures prominently in orchestral, concert band, and chamber music literature. The bassoon is a non-transposing instrument known for its distinctive tone colour, wide range, variety of character and agility. Listeners often compare its warm, dark, reedy timbre to that of a male baritone voice. Someone who plays the bassoon is called a bassoonist. The lessons will consist of breathing and finger techniques, learning notes and rhythms and how to read. Very quickly songs will be incorporated and as the student progresses we will work on learning scales and how to solo.

About Karen

Hi! My name is Karen D. I’ve had the pleasure of performing, singing, writing, and recording since I was seven years old. Besides being an Honor Graduate of Berklee School of Music, I have been a lifelong student of the international world-renowned instructors Dante Pavone and Charlie Banacos.

Karen obviously loves the piano & guitar. She’s probably an excellent teacher for those instruments. Why do I say that? That’s what she talked about! She spent half my lesson trying to convince me to learn one of those instruments. Could work on listening skills! Not even sure if she owns a set of bongos herself. Didn’t start teaching me anything until last 10 min & then I had to leave early anyway. So 50 min out of 60 and about 5 I actually learned a few things I could have been practicing for at least 30 min of class. Use her if you want to learn something else other than bongos.

Ms. Karen did a pretty good job, she had ideas for the lesson and provided ideas for the next lesson. She went out of her way to help me with this new idea---------"music" and "reading music." If there was any short fall in the lesson it was on my side and my preparation failings. I have no problem recommending Ms. Karen to others. Regards, JC
Troy W.
Extremely knowledgeable! Karen is a superb guitar instructor. Honestly, I was struggling. Discouraged! She helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and moved me from beginner to intermediate in a matter of months. If you’re getting tired of learning from YouTube and smart phone apps, let Karen kick start your guitar playing. You’ll be glad you did. Thanks Karen!!

"I had been a student of photography from Deano Mueller for over 3 years now! With all his teaching experiences from The New York Film Academy on the Universal Studios lot, as well as working as a Professional Photographer since 1989, Deano really knows how to share his experiences, skills, & wisdom with total understanding of sharing his knowledge of photography! By far, Deano has been the best teacher that I had the pleasure to work with and has made me a much better photographer and also because Deano understood my wants & needs of what I really want to learn about photography through his knowledge & experiences!"

"Margie is a phenomenal art instructor and artist – I highly recommend her classes to art learners of all ages! Whether you are interested in improving and practicing new art skills or looking for a fun art activity for your kids or with friends, Margie’s art classes are right for you! Margie gives excellent step-by-step instruction to create a wide variety of art subjects and styles, and can teach any art medium (watercolor paint, colored pencil, acrylic, etc.) in virtual and in-person settings. During lessons, Margie is great at giving individual feedback to each student in both group and individual sessions and encourages her students to explore and express their own creativity while they create – you will have a lot of fun and feel proud of the art you make in Margie’s classes. I took several of Margie’s art lessons with a group of friends (adult age group) and we learned to create a wide variety of subjects (nature, floral, animal, & human subjects) and learned to use several different mediums including watercolor, colored pencil, oil pastels, pencil & marker – I learned something new with every image/medium, love the art we got to create, and had the best time!"
