I firmly believe that every student is her own teacher: When you work with me, I'll come alongside you to support and guide you in your vocal goals. Whether your goal is to sing a particular song, increase your vocal flexibility, gain confidence as a performer, or even to learn to carry a tune in a bucket, I can provide you with proven tactics to become the musician you want to be.
Lessons with me are informed by my own experience as an operatic countertenor and musical theatre performer, my education at The New England Conservatory of Music (MM Performance, concentration in Pedagogy), my knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of singing, my studies in motor learning theory, five years of hands-on experience at various community music schools, and my continued commitment to professional development. You can count on me to keep learning with you–neither of us get to sit on our laurels!
By the end of our first lesson, we will have identified:

There are many different types of trombone. The most frequently encountered trombones today are the tenor and bass, though as with other Renaissance instruments such as the recorder, the trombone has been built in every size from piccolo to contrabass.
The modern bass trombone is pitched in Bb. Its tubing length of 9 feet (2.7 m) is identical to that of the tenor trombone, but it has a wider bore, a larger bell, and a larger mouthpiece. These features generate an overall darker, weightier tone that speaks with a more assured authority in lower registers, when compared to the tenor trombone. Modern bass trombones also have one or two valves (the latter being by far the more common) which, when engaged, change the key of the instrument. The lessons will consist of breathing and finger techniques, learning notes and rhythms and how to read. Very quickly songs will be incorporated and as the student progresses we will work on learning scales and how to solo.
