Michael is a stickler for doing things right, but in a nice way. I feel that his mode of teaching is best, because it builds a solid foundation for further learning.

After a brief intro, Mike explained where're going with his lessons. I was having some problems getting my fingers near certain fret areas he wanted me to work on, so he very kindly placed some colors tape where I'm to put my fingers. That helped a lot. Been practicing an hour per day, & I'm getting a bit better daily. I've got a long way to go, but with Mike's help I'll get there. ELLIOT

This was so much fun! Siddharth is an excellent teacher. My fiance and I took a lesson together so we could learn more about basic strategy. We had a great time and are so excited to start putting some of these tactics into use while we play together. Would love to take another lesson with Siddharth!

Student here. Siddharth was an incredible teacher, and he taught me all I need to know to play chess. It isn't the smoothest road, but that's always the case. If you're considering it, I say you should take his lessons, they're worth it!

My students and I have at least one meeting per week with the goal of preparing them for rated competitions. During this meeting, I will go over tactical themes with the student, challenge him/her with puzzles, go over and discuss Grandmaster games and opening variations, or play training games.

I will also chat with the student and find out what she been doing, what she has been working on, and ask her what problems she has encountered during her training.

I am new to chess will likely be a happy newbie for ever. I appreciate Daniel’s patience and willingness to explain details, sometimes multiple times, and answer basic questions about terminology, how to navigate chess sites, etc.
He is flexible with his lesson plans and adjusts them to meet the needs of his student.
Maria
My 14 year old son had several lessons with Daniel and enjoyed them very much. Daniel is clearly passionate both about chess and teaching. His lessons are always planned in advance and you can request specific topic to be covered. He is very patient, and allows student time to think through moves and strategies. After the lesson, he gives you a 'homework' puzzle to solve, which was reviewed in the following lesson. Definitely recommend!

"Meeting with Danial was great. He was able to assess what I was as a chess player and give me plenty of homework to work on between now and any future lesson. So far, this is exactly what I was looking for. It is someone that can lead and guide me towards being better at chess and give me the correct steps to move forward in my understanding of the game.

In just a single lesson and then 2 hours of immediate application of what he taught, I was able to raise my tactics rating over 100 points! Considering that was the benefit of a single lesson, I cannot imagine how much better I can be after I am able to practice more on what we discussed and as I continue on my chess journey.

Highly recommend his style of teaching and think he would make a fantastic teacher for anyone ages 5 to 85. Definitely a kind, patient, and knowledgeable teacher.

Looking forward to my next lessons!"

This makes for a more constructive lesson, with the student being able to improve their skills in a tailored like lesson. Siddharth also attempts to understand how the student is thinking, to see it from their perspective."

"I have been taking lessons with Dipankar for the last 2 months and it has been a great experience!. Dipankar really is a tremendous teacher, who quickly identifies my weaknesses as a player, which allows me me work towards eliminating those weaknesses.

My weakness is that I have the tendency to rush, or to assume that a move is the correct one, when it's not! Dipankar's system has taught me to stop assuming, to look for further moves and to choose the correct move more often than before.

My Chess rating has gone up and I am a much stronger player today thanks to Dipankar! I strongly recommend him to any Player that wants to improve."

Chess Openings & How To Start Your Game Strong

As a game, chess is traditionally divided into three phases: the opening, the middlegame, and the endgame. While all three are important, today I’m going to help you start out strong in the opening. When I first learned how to play chess, I played openings that really did not help me improve and left me with an awkward start to the game more often than not. Eventually, I adopted some of the openings that I will show you in this post and my rating skyrocketed. Opening Principles The first …

6 Tips For Improving Your Chess Game

Back around 2014, I decided I was going to improve at chess. I watched a few videos online about some openings, played a few dozen blitz games online, and then promptly lost interest within a week. Four years later, I decided to pick it up again and in less than a year, I had gone from 1100 to 1900 Elo rating online. Obviously, I changed how I went about my improvement! So here are the steps that I took the second time around that got me to where I am now, and some ways you can improve your ches …

Chess Rules: a Step-by-Step Guide for Beginners

I will admit to you, the reader, that most of the articles I have written thus far assume that the reader is already a fairly avid chess player, who is aware of the basic rules of chess and thus is interested in learning more advanced strategies, traps, and tricks with the goal of decisively defeating the opponent. But, of course, not everybody is born knowing all the rules of chess---there are, in fact, many out there who are unfamiliar with the game, and need an introduction to learn ch …
