Get ready for a truly rich and rewarding experience. Maria studied at the Moscow Conservatory with Viktor Merzhanov. She is a 4th-generation pupil of Franz Liszt and 6th-generation of Beethoven. She was one of the fortunate few (Garrick Ohlsson among them) to study with Roberto Eyzaguirre, who was a student and friend of Claudio Arrau, one of the 20th-century's greatest pianists. Arrau studied with Martin Krause, who was one of Franz Liszt's final pupils. Liszt was taught by Carl Czerny. And Beethoven was Czerny's teacher. Through this great lineage, learn an incredible technique that will enable you to play the music of your dreams!

I am gaining a lot from my lessons with Maria. She is helping me to play more musically, to really listen and feel the music. She is also helping me to learn technically how to achieve the musical expression I desire.

I have enjoyed my lessons from Maria immensely. After just a few lessons I have noticed significant improvements in my overall technique and comfort while playing. Her feedback during lessons has been amazing, not just shallow compliments but solid criticism that most teachers would avoid.

Maria is the best all-around music teacher I've ever head. She combines deep musicality, technical precision, rigor, and warmth. In just a handful of lessons, she's helped me find a level of ease and expression that I've never experienced with any other teacher.

Want to learn bluegrass, old-time, or Irish fiddling? With 18 years playing fiddle and 10 years teaching, I have the experience to help a beginner gain basic skills or an advanced student analyze bowing patterns, moving double stops, and more. From the student who is picking up the fiddle for the first time to the fiddler who’s been playing their whole life, I hope to inspire a love for traditional fiddle music and culture.

About Cody

I was first inspired to play the fiddle by my grandfather, Tom Smith. Many of my cousins started learning traditional instruments around the same time and we had a lot of fun jamming at family gatherings and at music festivals in our home state of Indiana. In 2015 I was proud to carry the family tra

I was basically a beginner approximately 6-7 months ago. I’ve been taking lessons online with Cody every week this whole time. I honestly can’t believe how far we’ve progressed. Cody is a real professional with an immense amount of talent! 100% highly recommend!
Chad C.
Growing up and taking music classes I have always struggled with grasping the concept of music and instruments. Currently a college student with a busy schedule, Cody has helped me accomplish a lot with the time I have been taking lessons with him. Coming from never being able to grasp music to starting to play some songs and understanding theory more, progress has really shown. Learning from Cody will give you a fun, patient, and an exciting environment that will keep you wanting to learn more. Cody is extremely talented, very nice, and makes music easy! I would suggest if anyone would want to learn from the best, learn from Cody!

I teach online or in-person piano lessons from my home studio on my beautiful Steinway baby grand piano.

A typical lesson with me will look something like this:

-The student plays what they have practiced, and we work on any difficult areas and techniques for playing better.

-I introduce new lesson material, asking questions to make sure my student understands.

-We work on music theory, sight reading, good posture, and helpful practice techniques.

-I expect my students to practice every day, just as I do. It is the only way to become proficient.

- - - - - - - - - -

For online lessons, you may use the online platform provided by TakeLessons, or we can use Zoom. Most of my students are using Zoom.

You will need to order lesson books before your first lesson. After you sign up, we will discuss which books to order. I usually use Alfred's Basic Piano Library lesson and theory books as a starting point for lessons.

You will also need to set up your computer, tablet, ...

Ms. Clarice is an all-star teacher and a extremely talented violinist. I had the honor of working with Clarice as an undergrad student at Arizona State University. Clarice was the teaching assistant for Danwen Jiang's Violin Studio. Clarice helped shape me to the violinist I am today, she helped instill a confidence in me I did not have before. She helped bring out passion to my playing in my performances. Clarice has a vast knowledge of violin pedagogy, technique, repertoire and music theory. Ms. Clarice loves each of her students and it shows through her character, you can tell she truly loves what she does and has a passion for teaching music. I got my start at the Stand Up NY comedy club in New York City. Throughout my life as a serious concert pianist, musician, writer and educator, comedy has been a shelter and a lifesaver. I met Woody Allen for conversation and some comparative opinions on his work, our favorite book stores, etc and it sparked a further desire to do some acting in film, writing and improvisation. As an improvisor in my own field of music, improvisation always came naturally to me. As a published writer and composer, structure is a familiar friend.

I learned how to deal with stage fright from my professional family of musicians and some of the greatest teachers/performers of the world with whom I studied at Juilliard. Yes, the same place that saw Robin Williams and Kline and others do their thing. I hung out with actors on the third floor when I was not rehearsing music on the 5th. Made friends. Lived in LA. Wrote music and acted for films. Got published. Started a comedy concert tour aboard the ...

Joseph has a wealth of knowledge about speaking, listening, vocals, etc.

He created a welcoming environment in our online lessons that made it easy to be vulnerable and get right to working on new skills.

I highly recommend for others looking to better understand their voice and communication style, and learn to hone them.
Catherine K.
Joseph put us at ease immediately. Our first lesson included valuable information on how to warm up our voices, increase our range and protect our voices. We look forward to our next lesson.
Donna
I have been studying piano with Joseph for nearly five years. In that time, I’ve learned more about the piano and musical interpretation than I ever thought possible.

Joseph’s technical ‘short cuts’ are amazing! He illustrates ways for your hands and your mind to work that are tailor made for you. Learning from him is so fun it seems almost effortless.

The way Joseph teaches allows you to develop at your own pace. The atmosphere is always relaxed yet everything moves along quickly.

At the open classes I attend, his other students are progressing very rapidly too. After each class, we share our impressions. The mood is elated because it feels like we stepped back in time and into history.

Joseph often quotes inspired wisdom of his historic teachers in our lessons. He is a great inspiration on his own with great musical insights.

I’m playing Beethoven and Chopin works I never thought I could approach at this stage of study, with great depth of understanding. I now play with greater passion and skill, get compliments from everyone I play for, and no longer worry about playing in public.

I look forward to each and every lesson with Joseph. His encouragement and support makes learning so rewarding! Anyone who finds this musical treasure is a lucky person and I cannot recommend him highly enough.

"My name is David Owens I have always enjoyed playing pool. To be honest even though I have played many years my skill level has not progressed above a beginner’s, I would miss as many shots as I made. But once I started receiving coaching from David Dugally that all changed. Mr. Dugally introduced and coached me in the approach used by the great shape pool players. I would highly recommend David D.’s training for all, no matter your level of play. You will win more eight ball, nine ball or straight pool games. Mr. Dugally will teach you techniques that will allow you to run ball after ball. Because he teaches you how to make your shot with the right spin to position the cue ball so your next shot is an easy shot (or very importantly) the cue ball is positioned where your opponent has a difficult shot if your likely to miss."

Chess Openings & How To Start Your Game Strong

As a game, chess is traditionally divided into three phases: the opening, the middlegame, and the endgame. While all three are important, today I’m going to help you start out strong in the opening. When I first learned how to play chess, I played openings that really did not help me improve and left me with an awkward start to the game more often than not. Eventually, I adopted some of the openings that I will show you in this post and my rating skyrocketed. Opening Principles The first …

5 Questions Every Jewelry Designer Should Have An Answer For

Interested in trying your hand at jewelry design? Before you begin, consider the following 5 questions, as outlined by Nashville jewelry designer and teacher Warren F... Susan felt very unsure of herself. And unsure of her jewelry. Would people like it? Was the color mix appropriate? Was the construction secure? Was the price smart and fair? She allowed all this uncertainty to affect her design work – she had difficulty finishing pieces she was working on, starting new projects, and getting …

Chess Rules: a Step-by-Step Guide for Beginners

I will admit to you, the reader, that most of the articles I have written thus far assume that the reader is already a fairly avid chess player, who is aware of the basic rules of chess and thus is interested in learning more advanced strategies, traps, and tricks with the goal of decisively defeating the opponent. But, of course, not everybody is born knowing all the rules of chess---there are, in fact, many out there who are unfamiliar with the game, and need an introduction to learn ch …
