Your ear is your single most important tool for navigating music, whether as a performer, a listener, a composer, a producer, or an improviser. The best path to a better ear is to dig deep into the music you love, and that's exactly what we do. Using techniques I learned over 10 years of studying jazz, you'll learn how to recognize and produce all the different harmonic resonances, chord qualities, and rhythmic patterns available in how to sing and transcribe melodies and chord progressions, and how to apply those skills and knowledge to your own music-making. You'll apply that foundation to learn music that excites you entirely by ear, empowering you to study anything you can listen to. You'll learn to hear the music you love in new ways, and discover new sounds to fill your ears with and translate onto your instrument.
Ear training can be one of the most fun parts of music practice, and I'd love to help you out with yours- shoot me a message and we can get started : )
My musical life started at the piano when I was four. I've spent the last five years helping students understand the sounds that speak to them and bring them into their own music-making. I spent my early years playing piano, then picked up the saxophone, which took me to Berklee College of Music,

I love working with children of all ages and have a lot of experience tutoring elementary and middle school students. I will tailor my tutoring sessions to the areas the student is struggling in and work with the student to identify how they learn best. I have worked with many children that learn in a wide variety of ways and have practice utilizing different methods to help them retain the information. I would love to help you or your child be and do their best!

I am a NJ Certified Science Teacher with 26 years public school teaching experience, including teaching AP Chemistry. Since retiring, I found I absolutely love online tutoring, and my students look forward to their lessons with me. I build their confidence and understanding. As a professional teacher, I know how to uncover the difficulties specific to each individual and guide them toward success. Rather than just explaining a concept to them, I lead my students with questions and examples so they can solve it themselves. With true understanding rather than mere memorization, grades naturally improve. I am especially good at teaching how to solve word problems.
My online equipment includes a laptop with webcam, 2nd monitor, 4K document camera, headphone/mic, and iPad (if you also have a tablet, we can use it as a collaborative, real-time whiteboard, much superior than the whiteboard provided by Zoom). I can also show you how to use your phone as makeshift document camera, so I can ...
After over 26 years as a certified public school teacher, I retired from the New Jersey Educational System. In my retirement, I discovered I absolutely love tutoring one-on-one. My philosophy is “Find the challenges a student is facing, then find the way through them.” Besides knowing the s

Bluegrass music is a form of American roots music, and a related genre of country music. Influenced by the music of Appalachia, bluegrass has mixed roots in Irish, Scottish and English traditional music, and was also later influenced by the music of African-Americans through incorporation of jazz elements. Besides the standard basics that are learned with guitar, I will help the student focus on learning the blues scales, chords, rhythms, and picking, strumming patterns and songs. As the student advances theory will be introduced and learning how to solo.

Getting the right instrument is one of the most important decisions in a musician's life. The right violin will feel comfortable in your hands, respond accurately and consistently to your touch, and help you produce the best possible sound for your level of musical development. Students learning the violin can rent or purchase instruments from music instrument retailers, and they offer a variety of instruments that can seem daunting for the novice violin purchaser. When will you know that it' …
