About Karri

I have been teaching clarinet for over 20 years and love it! I have both Bachelors and Masters degrees in Music, specifically in clarinet performance. Our son has taken clarinet lessons from Karri, going on four years. He always leaves his lessons uplifted and encouraged even on weeks when he hasn't been able to practice as much as he should have. I highly recommend Karri as a musician, teacher, and mentor. We have had several music teachers for various instruments and Karri has been the best bar none.

We have taken clarient lessons from Karri for, going on four years. Kerri is an expert in her field. As a teacher she is patient, kind, and encouraging. Our son has always left his lessons with her uplifted and encouraged, even when he hadn't gotten a lot of practice time in. I highly recommend her as a teacher, mentor, and musician.

Clarinet:
A musical instrument family belonging to the group known as the woodwind instruments. It has a single-reed mouthpiece, a straight cylindrical tube with an almost cylindrical bore, and a flared bell. A person who plays a clarinet is called a clarinetist. It is a great instrument for orchestras, jazz, blues or even popular music.
Starting with the basics we will learn breathing and fingering techniques and how to read music. It won't be long before you are playing songs. As the student progresses theory and soloing will be taught if interested.

About Karen

Hi! My name is Karen D. I’ve had the pleasure of performing, singing, writing, and recording since I was seven years old. Besides being an Honor Graduate of Berklee School of Music, I have been a lifelong student of the international world-renowned instructors Dante Pavone and Charlie Banacos.

Karen obviously loves the piano & guitar. She’s probably an excellent teacher for those instruments. Why do I say that? That’s what she talked about! She spent half my lesson trying to convince me to learn one of those instruments. Could work on listening skills! Not even sure if she owns a set of bongos herself. Didn’t start teaching me anything until last 10 min & then I had to leave early anyway. So 50 min out of 60 and about 5 I actually learned a few things I could have been practicing for at least 30 min of class. Use her if you want to learn something else other than bongos.

Ms. Karen did a pretty good job, she had ideas for the lesson and provided ideas for the next lesson. She went out of her way to help me with this new idea---------"music" and "reading music." If there was any short fall in the lesson it was on my side and my preparation failings. I have no problem recommending Ms. Karen to others. Regards, JC

Extremely knowledgeable! Karen is a superb guitar instructor. Honestly, I was struggling. Discouraged! She helped me understand my strengths and weaknesses, and moved me from beginner to intermediate in a matter of months. If you’re getting tired of learning from YouTube and smart phone apps, let Karen kick start your guitar playing. You’ll be glad you did. Thanks Karen!!

We are going to HAVE FUN! I will be customizing your lessons to your needs, your skill level, your age, and most importantly, what you would like to learn on the Clarinet.

Before getting into the pertinent details for clarinet, I also offer lessons on the "Recorder" or also known as the Flutophone. The recorder is a terrific beginners instrument for young children who have no prior experience with music. As an adult, if you enjoy the sound of the flute, but prefer to start with something easier, then the recorder would be a great choice. If you, or your child is interested in the recorder, sign up here for clarinet, but make a note it is the recorder you are signing up for. TakeLessons has not added the recorder to the list of instruments, but is in the process of doing so.

Also, if group lessons is something of interest, we can make arrangements through this platform. Group lessons are great for homeschool groups, especially when a music class has been incorporated into a home ...

More than 10 years ago, I told a good friend that learning to play the dulcimer was on my bucket list. He made my beautiful instrument and said " now you need to learn to play". 2021 is my year! Fortunately, Rhonda has become my instructor and I look forward to the weekly lessons. Her enthusiasm for teaching, her extensive knowledge, and many years of experience have given me the confidence that I can learn .

My name is Jerry. I LOVE music and passing my knowledge on to others. I have played many different instruments in many different kinds of bands. It all one major thing in common, it was FUN! If you are not having fun while learning an instrument you won't want to learn. Lessons can be fun AND educational at the same time. I have had many parents tell me I'm one of the best teachers they have ever seen. (A couple of them were public school teachers themselves). I truly want my students to succeed and I will do everything in my power to help them accomplish that!

Extremely unprofessional to abruptly cancel scheduled/paid lessons without the courtesy of a message or any notice because this instructor was unhappy with a 12-year-old child's progress. Very surprised by and disappointed in the manner in which he handled this situation, certainly could have been handled with more respect and maturity.

He is able to quickly identify causes of problems and offer multiple solutions. I learned many things from him in just my first lesson. I have had lessons at his house and on Skype. In addition to his vast knowledge of the clarinet and pedagogy he is also a positive person. He wants to see his students succeed. I highly recommend anyone to take lessons from him. "My son had never played the clarinet before. I signed him up with Damien to get an intro to the instrument, play with the correct embouchure, and learn a few simple songs. My son definitely got a head start before virtual learning starts in the fall and enjoyed learning about the clarinet. Damien was patient, direct and very knowledgeable. I only intended to do summer lesson to get him started, but I will definitely consider lessons again after he gets settled with his new school schedule."
